At long last the National Migration Policy was unveiled on Tuesday April 29, 2025 at Abuja Continental Hotel.
The coordinating agency, the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), in partnership with other development partners, presented the revised 2025 National Migration before invited stakeholders.

The Honourable Federal Commissioner of NCFRMI, Alhaji Tijani Ahmed, during the presentation, emphasized that the “update marks a significant step toward modernizing Nigeria’s migration governance, especially with the validation of the 2025 National Migration Policy”.
“Nigeria’s policy is not only locally relevant but also aligns with global migration governance standards”, the Honourable Federal Commissioner stressed.
In the same vein, the Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Alhaji Yusuf Sununu, pointed out the policy’s focus on addressing the loss of skilled professionals, especially in healthcare will enhance “brain circulation through partnerships between Nigerian and international universities”
The Chief of Mission for the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Nigeria, Ms. Dimanche Sharon, noted that “there are over two hundred and eighty-one million Migrants contributing to global growth and must be protected”.
Lending her voice, the Minister of Women Affairs, Hajia Imaan Sulaiman Ibrahim, emphasized that “migration is not only movement alone but about rights, dignity and opportunities”.
Cross cutting priorities includes gender, children and youth, Persons with Disabilities and older persons and governance.
If the document is approved by the Federal Executive Council, (FEC), it will be an orchestrated instrument binding governments, civil society, and international partners to make migration and mobility safe and orderly.
