I will build on NACTAL Nigeria’s long-standing relationship with Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) – NIS BOSS

NACTAL Nigeria National President paid a courtesy visit to the Comptroller General of Nigeria Immigration Service , (NIS) , Kemi Nanna Nandap. Accompaning him was WOTCLEF Head who is also the North Central Zonal Cordinator of the network alongside some NACTAL Project Staff.

The visit took place on Friday May 3, 2025 at the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) Headquarters, Abuja.

The ambience of the office and the poise of the officers in their smart carton colour uniform gave insight to what working at the Nigeria Immigration Service Technology Building is all about.

After a brief wait at the visitor’s room the NACTAL Nigeria President and his team were ushered into the workspace where Kemi Nanna Nandap, the Comptroller General of Nigeria Immigration Service calls the shot.

A formal introduction and exchange of pleasantries, signalled the beginning of the round table discussion.

Abdulganiyu Abubakar, NACTAL Nigeria National President thanked the CGI for sparing her time amidst her very tight schedule. He congratulated her on her appointment and extension of tenure.

NACTAL Nigeria President recalled the working relationship, support and synergy from NIS especially during the Action Against Trafficking In Persons and Smuggling of Migrants (ATIPSOM) Project which was completed in 2024.

“NACTAL Nigeria working with NIS, NAPTIP, The Nigeria Police Force, during the EU/Spanish Government supported project covered so many grounds in sensitization, training and opened up frontiers for us in the West African Region”, Abdulganiyu explained.

He further extolled the GCI ‘s wellfare support to the Immigration staff which he said has “motivated officers in their day to day work particularly those at the border post”, the Civil Society Team Lead emphasized.

Back to synergy, he mentioned the improvement with regards to the protection given to NACTAL members by NIS Officers during field activities.

After all said NACTAL Nigeria National President used the avenue to call the attention of the CGI to use her good office to facilitate the full operation of the Border Management Working Group, “as this will improve on your interventions and collaboration with NAPTIP and other stakeholders”.

He also encouraged the CGI to extend her collaboration efforts to the International Organisations particularly IOM towards attracting support for the good work NIS in doing on Smuggling of Migrants and Child Labour prevention.

In her response, the CGI expressed her unreserved gratitude to NACTAL Nigeria for the visit, noting that “it is timely”.

“We have had a long standing working relationship and l will build on that”, the GCI promised.

She thanked the National President for all the points raised and pledged to work together with her team to take immediate actions.

She particularly emphasized and made commitment to the following to: 1. Collaborate with NACTAL Nigeria in the areas of sensitization and training. 2. Ensure the National Migration Policy is fully executed with NACTAL Nigeria support 3. Sustain the support and collaboration of both parties at the National Steering Committee level. 4. Encourage NACTAL Nigeria to synergise with NIS especially in the use of NIS facilities.

Appreciating the National President, the Immigration Arrow Head stressed that “this visit is a wake-up call and will not be forgotten in a hurry”.

Highlights of the August visit was the presentation of NACTAL Nigeria published documents and strategy plans.

The curtain for the interactive dialogue ended with handshakes and a group photograph.
